VERDICT: MUST COLLECT

Dear Reader,
I am sooo happy MGA decided to bless us with the Bratz Pop Starz Line. Yes, they are a MUST COLLECT!! And I stand by this assertion, EVEN with the mic stains near some of the mouths of the dolls (**cough cough** acetone-based nail polish remover đź‘€). This line totally blew my expectations out of the water. Looking back, I can't believe I only considered buying Pop Starz Yasmin. Though don't get me wrong dear reader, my Pop Starz Yasmin is one of my ultimate favs. She couldn't take an ugly pic even if she tried. I mean seriously what's that saying? She'd look good in a burlap sack lol.
Anyway, when I think back to my opinion of the Pop Starz line before, it certainly wasn't as strong as it's become while living and getting to know these dolls. I definitely didn't have LOW expectations, but I assumed, "eh 'Pop Starz' sounds like it might be a little tacky. I have no need for little guitars and what not." đź‘€Yes but no. I actually found that these guitars, jackets, and mics (that are in essence the very things that makes them Pop Starz) are SO DISTRACTING when it comes to their beauty. I'm always on the look-out for dolls that, once restyled and transformed, become so much more than the doll in-box. And these girls delivered.
Not only did their line feel cohesive to me (which may become a rarity with the newer releases đź‘€STYLIN' BIRTHDAYđź‘€), but I actually like the themes they were trying out for each girlie. Love me a Punk Princess Cloe and never would I have known I needed a Space Cowgirl Jade in my collection. The overall concept was thoughtfully designed and definitely well executed. The fashion was totally Bratz (bold, layered, textured and tasteful) and overall satisfying, and the screenings are probably some of, if not the best screenings in the modern era of Bratz (imo ofc). Each screening is so distinct, which I absolutely LOVE.
I also love that each girl represents a different "genre" of pop star persona. They all seem like they'd be singing different styles of music! Some collectors did not like this and felt it was distracting and not cohesive. I've read a couple of people say they wished each girl had similar colored outfits and different instruments each. Which is an idea but I'm not sure how practical price/marketing wise it would be, I'm not a toy manufacturer. I am however, a collector and I'd like to state I like this line wayyyy better than the "Rock Angelz" Repros. As a modern release, Pop Starz excites me more than the Rock Angelz reproductions. Those are obviously very Y2K-y since they're repros. But for some reason anytime I see a Rock Angelz girl she starts giving me fever dream flashbacks of Rock of Love on VH1. I think it's the hats.
Meet the Dolls:
Cloe

Cloe was the sleeper hit of the Pop Starz Line for me. I think the combination of red and black lowlights with the black leather jacket harshened up her features. Once the jacket was removed, she became a lot softer and easier to photograph. I love how her black eye liner makes her ice blue eyes GLOW.
Jade

When I first saw this Jade doll, I noticed how different her eyes were and knew she'd be a popular doll! I love the light blue eye shadow and how dainty it makes her look. Even though her outfit was my least favorite, her boots are too cute and help tie the whole space-cowgirl theme together. I also can't help but love her bows.
Sasha

Sasha is one of the most striking dolls in the Pop Starz line when photographed. She consistently stands out in group shots. I'm honestly astonished by how much literal stage presence she has as an inanimate doll. This might be one of my favorite Sasha screenings of most recent lines.
Yasmin

Omg Pop Starz Yasmin, where do I even start. Honestly, she's just perfection. I think it's the combination of a beautiful screening and the soft, clean-girl makeup look that suits her perfectly. The light pink theme color is also spot on for Yasmin and I hope they keep choosing palettes like this for her.
Line Highlights:
Favorite Doll: Pop Starz Yasmin
Biggest Surprise: Pop Starz Cloe
Best Face Screening: Pop Starz Sasha
Best Original Outfit: Pop Starz Yasmin
Best Hair (Texture and Volume): Pop Starz Jade
Best Hair (Style): Pop Starz Sasha
Most Photogenic: Pop Starz Yasmin

When I first saw Pop Starz, I couldn't see past their accessories but now I think this line might be one of the strongest in my collection. If you're drawn to one doll then yes, I'd say go for it. Buy all 4 if you're really feeling them, because I'm here to tell you they do not disappoint upon unboxing and restyling!
